Using Coconut Oil To Cook Healthy Rice May Cut Calories: A New Study Shows
A new study has shown that eating the popular white rice might not be bad for your diet.
According to the study, there is a way for you to drastically reduce the amount of calories which are present in white rice by adding a very simple ingredient to the meal, coconut oil.
The study could not come at a better time given that past studies have linked the consumption of white rice to an increase in the risk of obesity as well as diabetes. This is due to the fact that a cup of white rice which has been cooked is known to have over 200 calories and in addition to that white rice is basically considered as starch due to the fact that it converts into fat and sugar when its in the body instead of energy.
The Washington Post is reporting that on Monday, while at a National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, Sudhair James explained the findings which were obtained from the result as well as the secret ingredient that can reduce the calorie numbers in white rise.
“What we did is cook the rice as you normally do, but when the water is boiling, before adding the raw rice, we added coconut oil—about 3 percent of the weight of the rice you’re going to cook.”
He added that the process not only involved the cooking of rice but also allowing it to cool once it has been cooked.
“After it was ready, we let it cool in the refrigerator for about 12 hours. That’s it.”
